What is physician UPIN and PIN?

What is PIN

The provider identification number (PIN) is issued to the provider by the Provider Enrollment of the insurance. The PIN is the "billing" number.

What is UPIN

All physicians are issued a Unique Provider Identification Number (UPIN) by the Registry Medicare. The UPIN is the provider’s "referring" number and is sent to you along with your PIN.

UPIN directories are available through FOIA (Freedom of Information Act). Requests may be sent directly to the Upstate Medicare Division, P.O. Box 5200, Binghamton, NY 13902-5200.

However NPI replaces all above.
